What Is Alignment
Alignment is the connection between course goals, learning objectives, learning activities and assessment. The following chart lists the terminal objective, enabling objective, assessment idea and activities, Absorb, Do and Connect.
A Terminal Objective is a statement in specific and measurable terms that describes what the learner will be able to do as a result of engaging in a learning activity.
Enabling objectives are supporting objectives for Terminal Objectives. They are created by analyzing Terminal Objective. They allow the Terminal Objective to be broken down into smaller, more manageable objectives.
Assessment Ideas are types of assessments proposed to assess student understanding of the material.
Absorb Activities are types of activities that define how the students will learn (absorb) the material.
Do Activities are activities that the students do to demonstrate understanding of the material.
Connect Activities are types of activities that allow the student to connect the learned lesson to real world experiences. This will foster retention of the material through association.
